Marloes (Luce) Schoonheim (1976) is a freelance historian living near Geneva. She volunteers for Greenpease Switzerland and is an (inglorious) illustrator.
Born and raised in the Netherlands, Schoonheim studied history in Leiden, wrote her thesis on the Bloomsbury Group and graduated with honors in 2000. She lectured at Nijmegen University and won the Dr. I.B.M. Frye Stipend for promising researchers in 2002. In 2005 Schoonheim received a Ph D for her thesis Mixing ovaries and rosaries: Catholic religion and reproduction in the Netherlands, 1870-1970. She worked as a post-doctoral researcher at Stanford University in the USA and, for nearly three years, at the Academia Sinica in Taipei, Taiwan. Schoonheim’s publications mainly concern demographic and Jewish history. From 2008 to 2010, she studied at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Montpellier, France.
The likeness between the person and the character Marloes in Theo Engelen’s book Marlow is purely based on coincidence.
